Quality Over Quantity

After applying much thought to the current state of The Rock And Roll Guru, I’ve decided that it’s time for a change. When I started this blog, I had one abundant resource that has faded drastically as of late – time. 19 months ago, I kicked off this blog with unrelenting passion, a voice, and a desire to be heard. I still enjoy reading my very first post to remind me of why I continue to write this blog.

Unfortunately, with all of my other responsibilities, the time that I have to dedicate to The Guru has started to dwindle. At my regular 9 to 5 job, I’ve recently been handed a huge account that can only be described as career changing. If all goes well, my future is secured. If it flops though, well, “Hello unemployment.”

In addition to work responsibilities I’ve also started to take on additional writing projects and I am in the process of hiring myself out for a few more. (Those of you that are unaware of my bi-weekly column over at Hard Rock Hideout should check it out. Vie’s Verses is published every other Thursday if you care to give it a read).

As I’ve been mentally processing how to balance my work/life responsibilities while maintaining The Rock And Roll Guru as well as my family responsibilities and volunteer work, I’ve come to one main conclusion – I’ve spread myself too thin. Because of that, everything starts to suffer. My work at my 9 to 5 has started to slip. My volunteer work has stopped being a joy and has become more of a hassle. And yes, the quality of The Rock And Roll Guru has gone down as well.

In order to rectify this, some changes have to be made. I’ve been thinking about the core reasons that I started this blog. One of them was to connect fans with music they want to know about that isn’t being communicated on major sites. That’s the main reason that Friday’s Rockin’ Roundup was put into existence. Another major reason for this site’s creation was to have an outlet to post a review of every concert that I ever attended. That’s why there is the Saturday concert review, which I’ve been fanatical about.

What I’m getting at is simple – quality over quantity. I am still going to maintain the weekly concert review to the best of my ability. Friday’s Rockin’ Roundup should stay intact as well. Where the changes are going to be most apparent is everywhere else. I don’t want to throw a post up just for the sake of posting and trying to build traffic. That’s an awful way to move a blog forward. The most important piece of any excellent blog is quality. If that means that I need to reduce my posts to once or twice a week in order to produce higher quality content, then so be it.

While there may be less going up for a while, the content that is posted will be much more meaningful and that is something I cannot put a price on. It will renew my energy, desire, and passion for the blog and it will raise the level of the visitor’s enjoyment as well as my own. I look forward to bringing you the highly improved Rock And Roll Guru for a long time to come. I’m excited for the future and I hope you are too.

I know what you mean. I actually never posted every day because I just don't have the time or desire. I am posting about 3 times a week and I feel like that is too much as it is with work and other responsibilities. The amount of time I put into it doesn't always feel like it is equal to the rewards it reaps. Wait a minute...there's not many rewards lol.
