Friday's Rockin' Roundup - All-Star Game Edition

Next week (Tuesday, July 14th) is the 80th annual Major League Baseball All-Star Game. This year it’s being played in St. Louis at Busch Stadium. It’s the best of the American League vs. the best of the National League and it’s one of my favorite nights of the year. To me, the all star game just epitomizes summer. It brings a sense of euphoria that most sporting events can’t, and it all ties back to my childhood. Endless summer days reading the box scores in the newspaper, following the Yankees, and enjoying the sport and the season with an unmatched passion.

This year, the Home Run Derby, which is held the night before the All-Star Game, is going to be a big event in the Guru’s house. My wife watched last year’s event with me when Josh Hamilton went on a tear at Yankee Stadium. Well, she had so much fun watching it last year, that she’s already cleared her calendar for this year’s derby.

The Home Run Derby can be seen on ESPN, Monday, July 13th at 8:00PM Eastern. The All-Star game can be seen on FOX, Tuesday, July 14th at 8:00 PM Eastern.

Here’s what rocked this week.

Nine Inch Nails Final US Shows
Trent Reznor has announced the final, final US concerts for Nine Inch Nails. He admitted that he did not like the shows he went out on (during the NINJA tour) and wanted to give a proper closing. The shows in New York are scheduled for intimate clubs, so I can only imagine what these performances will be like.

Changes For Panic At The Disco
Two members are leaving Panic At The Disco, but the rest of the group claims that this will not prevent them from honoring their current tour commitments (including opening for Blink 182). It’s a shame to see this band split into different directions after just a small amount of time on the mainstream circuit, but both parties claim that we (the fans) should be excited for the future.

More Issues for Aerosmith
See, if you’re gonna rock out when you’re 60+, you need to condition yourself before the tour begins. Between this and not be able to hit the high notes on a certain Toys closing number, I just have to wonder how much the band has left.

Hard Rock Hideout Giving Away Lollapalooza Tickets
Hard Rock Hideout and Island Records have teamed up to giveaway a pair of tickets to Lollapalooza and a $100 gas card to help get you there. Not a bad deal.

Doro – Fear No Evil
You can read my review of Doro’s latest disc, Fear No Evil over at Hard Rock Hideout. This disc was a lot of fun to listen to and review. Doro’s still got it.

Judas Priest/Whitesnake – Heavy Metal Then and Now
And finally, this is a rather cool piece of pictures from the current Judas Priest/Whitesnake tour. It’s a slide show of fans from the 85/86 Preist tour and fans from this year. It’s cool to know more than 25 years later, we’re all still rocking!
