ROCKtober Is So Lame

It happens every year. We get to the autumn season, the month of October creeps up and while we are thinking about Halloween and colder weather, some radio station whips out their “It’s ROCK-tober” slogan, telling you how they’re going to ROCK all month long. This has to be the dumbest label since JAMuary.

What idiot started this lame ass slogan anyway? Oh, look, if I put an R in front of October, we can ROCK all month! Let’s hear it for Rocktober, the rockingest month of the year! Why? Why is “Roctober the month that rocks the most? Why not August? Or June? At least those months are warm. Oh, but you can’t make a cool sounding name by adding a letter in front of those months.

And now this practice is moving beyond radio stations and into the world wide web. Some of my favorite blogs and rock websites have fallen prey to this awful scam and are actually proudly promoting the fact that it’s ROCK-tober! What the hell?

Look, if you want to rock and roll all night, you don’t need to wait until a certain month to do it. You can announce that every month, week, day, is a rocking one.

Rocktober. So lame.

What do you think? Do you like Rocktober? Hate it? Are there other lame radio/blog promotions and slogans out there that you can’t stand? Drop the Guru a line or post a comment. I’d love to hear all about it.

Comments are open. Feel free to post some.
