Rise Against's Studio Albums To Be Collected In Career-Spanning Vinyl Box Set on November 30 via Interscope/UMe

I honestly don’t know how well documented this is, but I am a pretty big Rise Against fan. Although I’ve never seen them in concert, I love their music. I am especially fascinated with their deep, driven, meaningful lyrics. And the hard rocking music that backs those lyrics up is pretty fabulous as well.

This November, their entire catalog is going to be available in one awesome vinyl box set. Here’s the press release with all the details:

On November 30, Rise Against’s body of work will be collected in the career-spanning self-titled vinyl box set Rise Against via Interscope/UMe. The comprehensive collection will feature 180-gram black vinyl pressings of all eight of Rise Against’s studio albums, including their three Gold-certified albums Siren Song of the Counter Culture (2004), The Sufferer & the Witness (2006), and Appeal to Reason (2008). “Eighteen years and eight records later, the story of Rise Against is best told with the music,” says frontman Tim McIlrath. “Each song on each record was a handcrafted stepping stone that took us far beyond any expectations we ever had and surpassed any goal we ever set. Rise Against formed in 1999 by bassist Joe Principe and vocalist/guitarist Tim McIlrath and quickly released two albums – The Unraveling and Revolutions Per Minute – on legendary San Francisco independent punk label Fat Wreck Chords. The band toured relentlessly, including dates on the Warped Tour, and rapidly built a devoted underground, with Exclaim calling them “the hardcore salvation we've all been waiting for.”

While their second album Revolutions Per Minute (2003) had Pop Matters declaring that the band was already at, “its peak in songwriting, performing, and energy,” the band’s success and acclaim continued to grow after they signed to Geffen in 2003. Rise Against’s first major label album, Siren Song of the Counter Culture was certified Gold in the United States. In a review of the album, Punk News credits the band with popularizing melodic hardcore music and influencing "literally thousands of bands.”

Rise Against continued to inspire transgressive rock fans seeking hope and catharsis during the Bush presidency and, with the release of their fourth album The Sufferer and the Witness, which also went Gold, The AV Club exclaimed, “no other band plays this style as compellingly.”

In 2008, Rise Against hit their commercial peak with their fifth full-length Appeal to Reason, which melded their driving melodic hardcore with scathing lyrics about the Iraq War and the Bush administration. The album hit No. 3 on the Billboard 200, No. 1 on the Canadian Albums Chart and the single "Savior" charted for over 60 weeks, setting the record for the most consecutive weeks spent on both the Hot Rock Songs and Modern Rock Tracks charts.

Their following two albums showed the band maturing while winning new fans with their combustible energy and conviction. Endgame (2011) and The Black Market (2014), both broke into the Top 5 of the Billboard 200 album chart. Of Endgame, Rolling Stone enthused, “Rise Against’s mastery of anthemic punk rock is second only to their mastery of being pissed off,” adding, On the Chicago band’s sixth album, Tim McIlrath is an ‘orphan of the American dream,’ heraldically ranting about environmental collapse, economic inequality, teen suicide and other unanswerable evils atop the mix of Bad Religion hardcore, metal-guitar action and modern-rock balladry that’s evolved into a platinum-plated formula.”

Meanwhile, Kerrang praised The Black Market as a “magnificent wakeup call,” and Alternative Press hailed the songs’ “visceral emotion.”

The box set concludes with Rise Against’s most recent album, 2017’s Wolves. The band’s fifth straight top 10 album, it was recorded as a response to the Trump administration and the overall contemporary political climate, written with the intent to inspire during a dark time. Recorded with producer Nick Raskulinecz, their first album in over a decade without Bill Stevenson at the helm continues their mission to speak truth to power. According to McIlrath, the title Wolves refers to “being wolves at the gate, being angry at authority, being angry at the direction of the country and the world, and fighting back.” Testament to their galvanizing and powerful message, it debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative, Top Rock and Hard Rock albums charts.

Billy Idol Receiving The Vinyl Reissue Treatment

Punk rock icon Billy Idol celebrate several of his best-loved works with newly remastered vinyl reissues of Idol’s first two solo LPs, Billy Idol and Rebel Yell, plus the expansive double-LP greatest-hits collection Idolize Yourself: The Very Best of Billy Idol. Each release is available now on high-quality vinyl with faithfully reproduced iconic original album art.

Billy Idol’s series of successes in the early 1980s brought punk attitude into the pop mainstream.  With a career that stretched back to the original British punk scene as the front-man of scene trailblazers Generation X, the swaggering, charismatic Idol relocated to New York City at the dawn of the '80s and reinvented himself as one of the era's most consistently popular performers.

Billy Idol, originally released on July 16, 1982, introduced Idol to mainstream American audiences and succeeded in launching his solo career. Teaming Idol with producer Keith Forsey and longtime guitarist/collaborator Steve Stevens, Billy Idol introduced a sleek, streamlined sound and includes hits such as "White Wedding," and "Hot in the City.”

Originally released on November 10, 1983, the multi-platinum smash Rebel Yell built on the foundation created by its predecessor and features Idol advancing and evolving his dance infused rock/pop sound. Once again working with Stevens and Forsey, with recording done at New York's Electric Lady Studios, Rebel Yell was a commercial smash featuring songs including the legendary title track, "Eyes Without a Face," and "Flesh for Fantasy.” Each of these hits are represented by iconic music videos that kept Idol in the public eye during the initial heyday of MTV.

While Billy Idol and Rebel Yell flash back to Idol's formative days as a solo performer, Idolize Yourself: The Very Best of Billy Idol offers a widescreen overview of his entire storied recording career.  First issued on CD in 2008, the 18-song Idolize Yourself features all of Idol's vintage hits including his early club smashes "Dancing with Myself" and "Mony Mony," plus “Cradle of Love,” “Rebel Yell,” “White Wedding,” “Eyes Without A Face,” “Flesh For Fantasy,” “Sweet Sixteen,” “To Be A Lover,” and more. The record concludes with two songs newly recorded just for this collection’s initial release: "John Wayne" and “New Future Weapon."

25th Anniversary Release Of Tesla's 1991 Psychotic Supper On Vinyl

UMeMARKS 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF TESLA’S 1991 PSYCHOTIC SUPPER ALBUM WITH TWO-LP VINYL RELEASE, ON JULY 22

Tesla’s third album, Psychotic Supper, the band’s third studio album, released on August 30, 1991, was the follow-up to the live Five Man Acoustical Jam, peaking at #13 on the Billboard 200, featuring an aggressive change in direction from the previous disc, landing an impressive five songs on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, including “What You Give,” which went to #7 and even cracked the Billboard Hot 100 at #86. Other memorable songs include “Edison’s Medicine,” which spotlights how its subject received credit for harnessing electricity over the band’s own namesake, Nikola Tesla, which climbed to #20 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks, along with “Call It What You Want” (#19), “Song & Emotion” (#13) and “Stir It Up” (#35).  Produced by Michael Barbiero (Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Anthrax) – who also helmed the band’s first two studio efforts -- the album was eventually certified platinum in 1993 by the RIAA, and was included in German magazine Rock Hard’s book of “The 500 Greatest Rock & Metal Albums of All Time.” The band themselves have been quoted as considering Psychotic Supper their best record.

To help mark the album’s 25th anniversary in August, UMe is reissuing the album for the first time as a two-LP standard issue vinyl set on July 22.

Tesla was formed in Sacramento in late 1981 by bassist Brian Wheat and Frank Hannon, with lead vocalist Jeff Keith, drummer Troy Luccketta and guitarist Tommy Skeoch joining them by 1984, settling on the name Tesla two years later.  Their debut album, Mechanical Resonance, came out in 1986, with many of the band’s themes and song titles inspired by the electrical engineer who gave them their name.  In the early days of their career, the band toured extensively, opening for David Lee Roth, Alice Cooper, Def Leppard and Poison.

And while their first two albums, Mechanical Resonance and 1989’s The Great Radio Controversy, both charted on the Billboard 200, 1990’s live Five Man Acoustical Jam, proved a breakthrough, peaking at #12, producing the Top 10 Billboard Hot 100 single “Signs,” a cover of the 1971 song by the Five Man Electrical Band.

On Psychotic Supper, the band largely eschewed the live album’s acoustic bent and let loose with a stripped-down production that enhanced the band’s bluesy take on rock and roll.  “Edison’s Medicine” is highlighted by Jeff Keith’s frenetic, yet soulful vocals and some scorching guitar solos by Tommy Skeoch and Frank Hannon. Skeoch also rocks out on theremin, while Hannon straps on a bass for a memorable solo. 

25 years after its release, Psychotic Supper still holds up for its impressive musicianship by the band and its mix of hard rock and anthemic ballads.
