The BoDeans

Hailing from Waukesha, Wisconsin, the BoDeans are a band whose biggest claim to fame was that they performed the opening hit from the very popular fox drama, Party of Five. It’s a shame that will be the way they are most remembered, because this band is a lot deeper than that.

Debuting in 1986 with the release of the critically acclaimed Love & Hope & Sex & Dreams, the BoDeans have been making great music for more than 20 years. The BoDeans are grown up rock done right. They have a distinctive style and signature sound that combines rock with modern country and soul. Led by fabulous singers/guitarists Kurt Neumann and Sam Llanas, the BoDeans blend harmony, sophistication, and heartfelt drama into their great rock songs.

Rock and roll with a Midwestern feel is the best way to describe the BoDeans work. Their songs are deep and passionate, yet fun. Their music can motivate, create a sing along, and make everyone feel good about themselves all at the same time. And the band is never finer than when they are in a live setting.

While Go Slow Down is their greatest work from the studio, it is their magical live performances captured on Joe Dirt Car that sets this band apart from the commoners. Joe Dirt Car is a brilliant double live disc recorded at the peak of the BoDeans career that flawlessly captures the brilliance in their performance. Their ability to interact with the crowd, their fantastic live performances, and their incredible music are what make the BoDeans such an amazing band.

Still making music, their latest album Still was released in March of 2008. Their debut disc is available via Rhino records in remastered format. There’s no word on whether their other discs will receive the same treatment, but they are easy enough to find and can even be ordered through the band’s website. If you’re looking for music that is different with a kick and a beat that will get you moving and stay with you for days, look no further. The BoDeans are the real deal.

It’s hard to believe that this band never got more mainstream recognition, but that’s part of their charm. This is one of the lesser known bands that you can claim as your own. With incredible songwriting abilities and endless talent, the BoDeans are just the band you’ve been waiting for.
